A weekend filled with art - Zaltbommel Kunstrondje XL - and opportunities to visit houses…
Two for joy
De Fundatie has an annexe, a lovely castle near the river IJssel that is called Kasteel het Nijenhuis. Which translates to Castle the NewHouse – a singular misnomer as it pops up in history around 1382. Well, it was new once and it is as-good-as-new ever since it became a museum plus sculpture garden. We had fortuitous timing – the beautiful magnolia trees flanking the entrance were in full bloom. Absolutely stunning! Magnolias date back to dinosaur times – now isn’t that food for thought.
My favourites: Polygonal Horse II by Gregor Gaida, and Rawsome! by Ronald Westerhuis. Food for thought: Am I a magpie – drawn by anything that blinks?
One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret
Never to be told.
