Did a Rotterdam – Schiedam – Vlaardingen walk just now. Some very, very expensive real estate in high-rises overlooking the worlds second largest harbour. A lot of industrial history: factories, mills, warehouses, cleverly re-employed. Schiedam for example has created something rather lovely from the flotsam and jetsam of the former genever mills. The most bizarre object of the day: a floating farm in Rotterdam harbour – smells and sounds of the countryside right ibetween the ships and shipyards. Maybe we should float more than just a farm and a few houses … would make us flexible when sea levels rise.
